Sims Middle School in Pace, FL, competed in the Regional Science Olympiad competition at the University of West FL this past weekend. Students were given the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge of math and science through competing in fun events like ‘roller coasters’ and ‘towers.’ The roller coaster event is a study of Newton’s laws of motion. And the towers event allows students to study the mechanics of materials by building trussed wooden towers to support static loads. Sims rocked the house by taking home first place in the ‘towers’ event and was proud to have medaled in two other categories. We are proud of the many area middle and high schools who participated. Joe DeReuil Associates is grateful to have been given the opportunity to support this STEM program at Sims Middle School. Special shout out to team member Abby McMath (daughter of Joey McMath).
