$1.5 million elevated Pedestrian Plaza bounded by the Georgia Dome, the World Congress Center and the Georgia Dome Viaduct. Eighty foot tall Plaza designed for 4 ft. deep planters with trees and a future structure above. Project was designed in cooperation with and included in bid documents for $10 million Georgia Dome Viaduct by Georgia Department of Transportation. Structure features long spans (100 ft. - 135 ft.), 24" diameter pipe columns, steel pipe trusses, 96" deep plate girders, cast-in-place concrete bents, AASHTO girders and a concrete slab.
"I had complete freedom to structure it as I saw fit and suggested using 24" pipe columns and trusses made up of 16" and 12" pipes which efficiently supported the long spans and provided lateral resistance to seismic and wind loads as a moment frame. I am particularly proud of the attractiveness of the exposed structure." -Joe DeReuil
